| How much does Cub
Scouts cost?
Once
a year in the fall we pay registration dues, which are $50 for
each scout. This money goes to the cost to register each
scout, a pack 273 T-shirt, pinewood derby car, and general pack expenses which
include leader training and pack awards. Each scout is also
required to have a cub scout uniform which is about $60.
|
| How do you feel
about a potential scout and parent visiting a meeting
unannounced?
Feel
free to visit pack meetings during the year. Visiting a pack
meeting will help you understand a portion of the Cub Scout
experience we offer, but there is much more and please
understand that the leaders may have limited time to spend
with you as they will be concerned with running the meeting.
|
| How are new scouts
handled?
New
scouts are put together in a den of similar-grade boys. If
there is more than one such den, then consideration is given
to the new scout’s school and home location, and other
issues. New Tiger Cub dens are normally created in
September. |
| When and where do
dens meet?
Once
a den is formed the adults discuss scheduling and develop a
consensus about timing and location that will work for all
families involved. Some dens like to set aside the same
evening as pack meetings. Others prefer a different weekday
evening, a weekend afternoon, or a particular day just after
school. Tiger Cubs may meet more frequently, for less time, to
allow for their attention spans. Regarding the location, dens
meet at Norton School, Springdale Church, or other locations.
Some meet at the same location all the time, and others change
every meeting. |
| How do you orient
new families to scouting?
In
September we have a New Scout Orientation meeting which
presents various aspects of Pack 273 and the Cub Scout
experience. It is conducted by some of our pack and den
leaders, there is time set aside for questions and meeting
with other families with a boy in your son’s grade. |
| How active is your
pack at district and council events?
We
are very active. We participate in spring and fall campouts,
summer day camp, the Scout-O-Rama, and other events throughout
the year. |
| What kind of
fundraising do you have?
We
sell BSA popcorn products in the fall. We have the annual cake
bake an auction which raises money for the pack. We also sell
tickets for the annual Scout-O-Rama each year. |
| What are pack
meetings like?
We
strive to strike a balance between playing games, working on
achievements, rewarding accomplishments, and performing skits,
cheers and songs. We start our meetings with a flag ceremony.
Some time is dedicated to discussion of past and upcoming
events and general communication. We have a snack and drinks
at the conclusion. |
| What is your
philosophy on uniforms?
The
uniform shows that we are members of the Cub Scout
organization, and it is where patches and pins of each scout’s
achievements can be proudly worn. We wear our uniforms to most
pack meetings, the Scout-O-Rama, and other scouting events. We
are a belt up pack. We start at the belt and go up. We do not
require cub scout pants, short, or socks. We also offer a “class
B” uniform based on the Pack 273 T-shirt, which may be worn
to on camping trips and other, less formal activities. Click
